To develop learners understanding of the use of maths when operating an abrasive wheel safely during construction tasks. The course is delivered over 1 day in 1 session running from 8:00am until 4pm with half an hour lunch. Maximum learning time is 7 hours 15 minutes. By building confidence in maths through applying the principles to the safe operating of an abrasive wheel piece of equipment. This provides the the learners and employers with appropriate competencies and abilities and can be tailored to pieces of abrasive wheels tools, whilst gaining life long maths skills that not only support Health and Safety within the workplace, but provides underpinning transferable knowledge that can be applied outside of the work environment.

Module 1 - Legal Duties & Safety Law Explain the legal responsibilities of employers and employees under HASAWA and PUWER. Interpret accident data using graphs. Interpret pie chart data showing accident causes (percentages, fractions) Module 2 - Wheel Identification & Markings Calculate whether wheel speed is suitable: compare RPM to tool rating; convert m/s to RPM Module 3 - PPE & Risk Assessment Measure and compare noise levels (decibel thresholds); calculate safe distances (e.g., 3m fuel rule) Module 4 - Pre-Use Checks & Mounting Wheels Count safety checklist items; use torque estimation (hand tighten vs tool) Module 5 - Using the Equipment Fuel mixing (e.g., 50:1 ratio), water flow rate (0.5L/min) calculation Module 6 - Shutdown, Storage & Course Assessment Organise stock by expiry date; count remaining wheels (FIFO method)

This course is part of our Skills Development Service. To be eligible for this training, you must be: • 19 years old or over • Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker. • Have the right to live and work in the UK. • You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years. This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches.
