Skill Overview

To develop learners’ skills in writing and delivering clear, site-relevant toolbox talks using structured English.

The course is delivered over 4 hours.

By building confidence in writing and comprehension skills, within the preparation of a toolbox talk, this support will learners with the ability to produce accurate, detailed toolbox talks for use on site.  

Through the delivery of the relevant English modules linked to the underpinning Health and Safety knowledge, the employer will benefit from the learner being able to produce, compliant, effective Toolbox Talks that meets the rigorous requirements. 

By developing English skills through this course, this will help learners in the delivery of a toolbox talk, this will also support provide underpinning knowledge that can be applied in other aspects of a site supervisors role which will support learners progression within construction site management

Learning Objectives

Module 1 - Introduction to Toolbox Talks	
Define what a toolbox talk is and describe its purpose on site	

Module 2 - Reading & Understanding Toolbox Talk Examples
Reading: Toolbox talk examples (with glossary and questions)
Vocabulary: Health and safety terms focus

Module 3 - Planning and Writing a Toolbox Talk
Writing: Fill in planning sheet with topic, points, safety advice

Module 4 - Delivering a Toolbox Talk
Speaking/Listening: Deliver talk to group; give and receive feedback

Module 5 - Wrap-Up and Feedback
Speaking/Writing: Feedback forms and group reflection

This course is part of our Skills Development Service.

To be eligible for this training, you must be:

•	19 years old or over 
•	Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker.
•	Have the right to live and work in the UK. 
•	You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years.

This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches.
