Skill Overview

This is a bridging course between Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills Maths designed to support learners in developing the key mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills needed to transition confidently to the next level.

Who is it for?
•	Learners who have completed Level 1 Functional Skills Maths and need extra support before moving to Level 2.
•	Those looking to boost their numeracy skills for employment or further education/training.
•	Anyone who wants to refresh and strengthen core maths abilities in a practical way.

This is a 5 week programme - totalling 12.5 hours (2.5 hours per week).

Learning Objectives

Key Topics Covered

1.	Number and Calculations – Building on whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, and ratios.
2.	Measures and Shapes – Units of measurement, perimeter, area, and volume.
3.	Handling Data – Understanding charts, tables, probability, and averages.
4.	Algebra Basics – Simple equations, expressions, and problem-solving techniques.
5.	Applied Maths Skills – Practical problem-solving in work-based and life scenarios.

This course is part of our Skills Development Service.

To be eligible for this training, you must be:

•	19 years old or over 
•	Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker.
•	Have the right to live and work in the UK. 
•	You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years.

This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches.
