This qualification helps learners develop the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support teachers and contribute to the learning and development of students. Assessment and Qualification: The Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification typically involves assessments that can include: Written assignments: These assess the learner’s understanding of the theories and practices behind teaching and learning support. Practical assessments: Learners are often assessed in a school or classroom setting, demonstrating their ability to apply the skills and knowledge they’ve gained. Observation: In some cases, learners are observed while working with students to assess their effectiveness in supporting learning.

1. Understanding the Role of a Teaching Assistant Responsibilities: Understanding the key roles and responsibilities of a teaching assistant in supporting classroom learning and student well-being. Supporting Teachers: Gaining skills to assist teachers in preparing resources, managing classroom behaviour, and delivering lessons. Collaborating with Other Professionals: Understanding how teaching assistants collaborate with teachers, other support staff, and external professionals to meet students' needs. 2. Supporting the Learning Process Assisting with Lesson Delivery: Supporting the teacher in delivering lessons, including managing group activities and one-on-one support for students. Individual and Group Support: Developing strategies to support both individual students and small groups, especially those with additional needs. Encouraging Student Participation: Creating an environment that encourages students to participate and engage with learning activities. 3. Child Development and Learning Understanding Child Development: Gaining knowledge about child development stages and how they relate to learning and behaviour. Supporting Emotional and Social Development: Recognizing the importance of supporting students' emotional and social development, helping them build relationships with peers and teachers. Learning Styles and Needs: Identifying different learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) and adapting teaching methods to meet diverse student needs. 4. Supporting Behavior and Managing Classroom Environments Positive Behavior Management: Learning techniques for promoting positive behaviour and addressing disruptive behaviours in a constructive way. Creating a Safe and Inclusive Environment: Ensuring the classroom is a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space for all students, including those with additional needs or disabilities. Setting Boundaries and Expectations: Supporting the establishment of clear classroom rules and expectations, helping students understand the importance of respect and responsibility. 5. Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) Recognizing SEN: Understanding the different types of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and how they impact learning. Adapting Teaching Methods: Learning how to adapt teaching methods and resources to support students with SEN effectively. Assisting with Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Understanding how to implement and contribute to IEPs to ensure students with SEN receive the necessary support. 6. Communication Skills Effective Communication with Students: Developing skills to communicate clearly and effectively with students, taking into consideration their age, needs, and level of understanding. Supporting Communication in a Diverse Classroom: Learning how to assist students from diverse backgrounds, including those with English as a second language. Liaising with Teachers and Parents: Developing effective communication skills to liaise with teachers, parents, and other professionals involved in the student's development. 7. Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Promoting Student Wellbeing: Supporting the emotional and physical wellbeing of students, including identifying and addressing potential welfare concerns. Health and Safety Awareness: Understanding and applying health and safety protocols in the classroom, including how to handle emergencies and ensure a safe learning environment. Supporting Personal Hygiene and Independence: Encouraging students, especially those with additional needs, to develop independence in personal hygiene and self-care tasks.
