A Lean Manufacturing Operative works in a manufacturing environment, focusing on optimising production processes by applying lean principles. This apprenticeship prepares individuals to contribute to continuous improvement, reduce waste, and improve efficiency and product quality. Operatives play a key role in ensuring that manufacturing systems run smoothly, consistently meeting production targets while minimising costs and waste.

Key Learning Areas: Lean Manufacturing Principles Understanding the core principles of lean manufacturing, including reducing waste, maximising efficiency, and continuous improvement (Kaizen). Knowledge of different types of waste (e.g., overproduction, defects, motion) and how to eliminate them. Health and Safety Compliance Ensuring a strong focus on health and safety regulations in the workplace, including the safe operation of equipment and tools. Identifying potential hazards and adhering to environmental and organisational safety policies. Production Process Improvement Learning to monitor production processes and identifying areas for improvement. Applying lean tools and techniques, such as 5S, value stream mapping, and root cause analysis, to streamline production and eliminate inefficiencies. Quality Control Gaining the skills to inspect products and ensure they meet required quality standards. Understanding quality assurance processes and how to detect and address defects or production issues promptly. Effective Teamworking and Communication Collaborating with other departments, such as engineering, maintenance, and quality control, to ensure smooth operations. Developing communication skills to provide feedback and contribute to continuous improvement discussions. Problem-Solving Skills Using problem-solving techniques, such as Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA), to identify and solve issues that arise during production. Supporting the implementation of solutions to ensure consistent product quality and operational efficiency. Process Control and Equipment Operation Gaining hands-on experience operating manufacturing equipment, ensuring it runs efficiently, and understanding how to perform routine maintenance. Learning to control and monitor the flow of materials through the manufacturing process to ensure production targets are met.

Must be at least 16 years old. Residency Status Must have the right to work in England. Must have been ordinarily resident in the UK, European Economic Area (EEA), or have lived in the UK for at least three years prior to starting the apprenticeship. Educational Status Must not be in full-time education (apprenticeships are considered an alternative to full-time education). A person with previous qualifications can apply, but the apprenticeship must provide new skills and learning. Previous qualifications must not significantly overlap with the apprenticeship being applied for. Employment Must have a job or apprenticeship agreement in place with an employer who is willing to offer an apprenticeship opportunity.
