Skill Overview

The Level 2 Business Finance and Numeracy qualification is designed to equip learners with essential financial knowledge and practical numeracy skills to effectively manage finances within a business context. 

Spanning 12 weeks, the course provides a comprehensive understanding of business finance, from cost management and financial records to using spreadsheets for income and expenditure tracking. 

Learners will develop critical skills in financial documentation, cash flow management, and business budgeting, preparing them for roles in finance and business management.
Throughout the course, learners will engage with real-world business finance scenarios, using tools like spreadsheets and financial reports to analyse and manage company finances. 

The course is designed to be interactive, with hands-on activities and assessments that encourage learners to apply their skills and knowledge to practical situations. The course also addresses the ethical aspects of business finance, promoting financial transparency, responsibility, and legal compliance.

Session Duration – 12 weeks (3.5 hours per session)

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

•	Understand and apply fundamental financial terminology and concepts relevant to business operations and decision-making.
•	Identify and analyse different types of business costs—including fixed, variable, direct, and indirect—and evaluate their impact on profitability and cost management strategies.
•	Interpret and create key financial documents such as income statements, balance sheets, invoices, and tax forms, understanding their role in financial management and compliance.
•	Prepare and analyse basic cash flow statements and budgets, using financial data to monitor, improve, and sustain business financial health.
•	Use financial information to support business planning, forecasting, and decision-making, recognising the internal and external factors that influence financial outcomes.

To be eligible for this training, you must be:

•	19 years old or over 
•	Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker.
•	Have the right to live and work in the UK. 
•	You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years.

This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches.
