Skill Overview

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young
children from birth to seven years of age, with applied knowledge in the early years (0-5 years old).

The qualification content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

Learners will need to be working, in a childcare setting to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
Training will be given to develop the occupation standard’s knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs). Coaching
will support the completion of the mandated qualification (Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner). With support
given to compile a portfolio of evidence and coaching to help work towards English and maths at Level 1 and 2 if
required.

Funding Eligibility

For apprentices aged 16-21 the training costs are fully funded by the government. For apprentices aged over 21, there is a 5% co-investment which would be paid by the employer. Alternatively, the training costs can be covered by utilising the Apprenticeship Levy Fund.
