Skill Overview

The Telescopic Handler is a machine used for lifting, moving and placing materials and equipment.  A common sight on construction sites and sometimes known as a telehandler, teleporter, or boom lift, it is essentially a forklift with a boom giving it the extra benefits of a crane.  Its single telescopic or articulating boom extends forward and upwards, adjusting the maximum reach of the machine to serve various jobs and purposes. 

Telescopic Handlers move loads such as bricks, sand, and wood at weight ranging from two to seven tonnes and more. It works with various attachments making it an adaptable and versatile industry appliance on site.

This A17C CPCS certification delivers the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding of safely using a Telescopic Handler, focussing specifically on endorsement C - all sizes of machine excluding 360 slews. Operated at unlimited heights on multi-surface terrain and equipped with located stabilisers.

It is specifically aimed at Plant Operators who require novice-level practical and theory-based training and test on a Telescopic Handler and pursue a career in plant operations.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the training, successful delegates will:

- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for a Telescopic Handler

- Confidently locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions

- Be able to locate and identify key controls on a Telescopic Handler and explain their functions

- Conduct all pre-operational and running checks following manufacturer's and legislative requirements

- Be able to prepare a Telescopic Handler for use and operate the machine safely and efficiently, adhering to all A17C usage and protocols

- Perform specific loading and unloading tasks and operations as practiced throughout the course

- Confidently carry out all end of work and shut down procedures

Upon successfully completing the course, delegates receive their CPCS Red Card (Trained Operator), valid for two years per category held.
