Skill Overview

Equip participants with strategies to support GCSE students in key maths topics (e.g., algebra, geometry, statistics) aligned with the UK National Curriculum. 

 

Build confidence in explaining and reinforcing complex maths concepts to students, addressing exam-related challenges. 

 

Provide practical, hands-on activities to develop supportive teaching techniques suitable for home or classroom use, with a focus on exam preparation. 

 

Foster collaboration through group discussions to share experiences and solutions for supporting students’ GCSE maths learning. 

This training can be tailored to meet the employers needs, this can also be delivered for Intermediate and advanced levels

Learning Objectives

- Understand key GCSE maths topics (e.g., algebra, geometry). 

- Learn strategies to build students’ confidence for exams. 

- Recognise common challenges for GCSE students, including exam stress. 

- Master techniques to teach algebra and number skills (e.g., equations, percentages). 

- Apply strategies to help students with exam-style questions. 

- Address misconceptions in algebraic and numerical calculations. 

- Learn to support geometry (e.g., Pythagoras, angles) and statistics (e.g., probability, graphs). 

- Develop exam-style problem-solving strategies for students. 

- Practice guiding students through multi-step questions. 

- Consolidate strategies for supporting GCSE maths. 

- Apply algebra, geometry, and statistics skills to an exam-style scenario. 

- Develop a personal action plan for ongoing support.

This course takes roughly 4 - 5 hours , and can be completed in the employers workplace, remotely or in a different location. This course can be tailored to the needs of every employers needs in any sector.

This course is part of our Skills Development Service.

To be eligible for this training, you must be:

•	19 years old or over 
•	Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker.
•	Have the right to live and work in the UK. 
•	You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years.

This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches.
