Lead Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives. Lead Adult Care Workers provide supervision, frontline leadership, guidance and direction for others, or working autonomously, exercising judgement and accountability. They will make a positive difference to someone's life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. They will exemplify core behaviours and competencies to provide high quality compassionate person-centred care and support, and will exercise judgement and take action to support delivery. Job roles include Care Supervisor, Senior Care or Support Worker, Community Support, Family Support Worker or Personal Assistant.

Duties of the job role covered as part of the Apprenticeship: "Duty1: The job they have to do, their main tasks and responsibilities. Diploma Links: ACM4 Person centred practice,choice and independence ACM7 Scope and responsibilities of an adult care worker ACM8 Understand duty of care Optional units will also be agreed in line with this aspect." "Duty2: Treat people with respect and dignity and honour their human rights and exemplify the right values and behaviours. Diploma Links: ACM5 Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights in care settings." "Duty3: Communicate clearly and responsibly Diploma Links: ACM1 Promote Communication in care settings ACM3 Handle information in adult care Optional units will also be agreed in line with this aspect" "Duty4: Support individuals to remain safe from harm (Safeguarding). Diploma Links: ACM9 Understand how to safeguard individuals ACM10 Understand mental capacity and restrictive practices." "Duty5: How to champion health and wellbeing for the individuals they support and work colleagues. Diploma Links: ACM4b Understand how to promote personal wellbeing ACM6 Promote Health & Safety in care settings ACM6b Suppoprt the health and wellbeing of individuals in care settings, ACM11 Infection and prevention control in a care setting Optional units will also be agreed in line with this aspect." For apprentices aged 16-21 the training costs are fully funded by the government. For apprentices aged over 21, there is a 5% co-investment which would be paid by the employer. Alternatively, the training costs can be covered by utilising the Apprenticeship Levy Fund.
