* Develop learners’ confidence and competence in public speaking through structured practice. * Equip learners with practical techniques for planning, delivering, and evaluating presentations. * Reduce fear and anxiety associated with speaking in front of others. * Encourage self-awareness and reflection in communication styles and habits. * Prepare learners to use public speaking skills in professional, academic, and personal contexts. By the end of the course, learners will be able to: 1. Identify key traits of effective public speakers, including voice, body language, and audience engagement. 2. Organise and structure a clear, engaging speech using a recognised framework (introduction, body, conclusion). 3. Demonstrate effective vocal and physical delivery techniques to enhance clarity and engagement. 4. Apply strategies to manage public speaking anxiety, such as visualisation, breathing techniques, and positive scripting. 5. Deliver a short, well-prepared speech with confidence, followed by self and peer reflection. 6. Give and receive constructive feedback to support their own development and that of others. * Understand the core elements of public speaking: confidence, clarity, and audience connection. - Icebreaker: “My name is…” intro game - Presentation: Key traits of effective speakers - Video analysis of good/bad speaking examples * Learn how to organise a clear and engaging speech. Introduce a simple speech structure (Intro, Body, Conclusion) - Group activity: Reorder a jumbled speech - Planning sheet for learners to create their own mini speech * Practice vocal tone, pace, posture, and gestures. - Breathing and voice projection warm-ups - Demonstration: How posture and tone impact message - Paired practice: Deliver 30 seconds of their planned talk *Develop strategies to reduce anxiety and engage the audience. Group discussion: What makes us nervous? - Techniques: Visualisation, breathing, positive scripting - Activity: Q&A practice and unexpected audience questions * Deliver a short speech and reflect on progress. Each learner gives a 2–3-minute speech - Peer and tutor feedback using a checklist - Self-evaluation form completed

To be eligible for this training, you must be: • 19 years old or over • Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker. • Have the right to live and work in the UK. • You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years. This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches.
