Skill Overview

Develop degree qualified engineers who can design, build, test, and deploy software. Designed in collaboration with industry this programme ensures apprentices gain experience in agile delivery, cloud native architectures and DevOps practices. Apprentices also gain fluency in modern programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.

This pathway will help you strengthen your internal capability, reduce contractor reliance, and accelerate digital delivery.

Learning Objectives

On the Level 6 Digital & Technology Solutions Professional apprenticeship (Software Engineering pathway), the learner will develop the knowledge and skills required to design, build and maintain robust software solutions that meet organisational and user needs. This includes applying core software engineering principles, writing clean and maintainable code, and using modern development tools such as version control systems and integrated development environments. The learner will gain experience translating business requirements into technical solutions, contributing to the design of software architectures, and working with a range of programming languages, frameworks and development methodologies.

The programme will also support the learner to develop strong professional and collaborative skills within a technical environment. They will learn to work effectively within Agile delivery teams, participate in code reviews, and apply testing and quality assurance practices to ensure reliable software. Alongside technical development, the learner will build an understanding of secure development, data management, and deployment practices, while continuously reflecting on their professional growth and keeping up to date with industry standards and emerging technologies.

This apprenticeship is available to employers and employees looking to upskill in their organisation. We cannot support applications from unemployed individuals.
 
Sole traders or self-employed individuals cannot enrol themselves but may enrol a new employee.
 
For apprentices aged 16-21 the training costs are fully funded by the government. For apprentices aged over 21, there is a 5% co-investment which would be paid by the employer. Alternatively, the training costs can be covered by utilising the Apprenticeship Levy Fund. Submit an enquiry to find out more
