Available all year round on a roll on/roll off basis so you can start your studies at a time suitable for you. The primary purpose of this qualification is to help you prepare to enter, or progress within, employment within the Health or Social Care sector in a variety of job roles where an understanding of dementia and the care of people with dementia is required. You can also take this qualification to support your progression into further learning within the Health and Social Care sector. This qualification will develop your underpinning knowledge and understanding to support your role working in dementia care. This qualification aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the principles of caring for people with dementia. You'll develop knowledge of person-centred care, the influence of positive communication methods, issues relating to the use of medication for people with dementia, and the importance of providing appropriate activities.

The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia You'll develop the knowledge and understanding required to enable the person with dementia to experience well-being. You'll develop your knowledge of the person-centred approach to dementia care and support. Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia You'll gain the underpinning knowledge required to develop your awareness of the differing communication needs and abilities of people with dementia to enhance positive interactions. Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care You'll understand the concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion that are fundamental to person-centred care practice. Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach You'll develop your knowledge and understanding of people who may have specific needs for receiving medication because of their experience of dementia. You'll develop knowledge of these medication requirements. Understand behaviour in the context of dementia You'll explore different forms of behaviour and the factors that can affect behaviour in a person with dementia. You'll learn how to respond in an appropriate and supportive manner to behaviour that may be challenging. Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care You'll understand the benefits of engaging in activities to enhance physical, mental and social well-being in a diverse range of settings.

Greater Manchester Combined Authority part subsides our flexible learning courses for GM residents. The College does not charge a fee for the course; however, failure to complete it may incur a £125 administration fee. Applicants must have been living in the UK for at least 3 years.
