Skill Overview

This course helps health and social care professionals develop the numeracy skills required for safe, efficient, and confident care delivery. Learners will build confidence in calculating medication dosages, managing time across shifts, budgeting for care plans, and interpreting key health data such as fluid intake logs and pulse charts. Each session is rooted in real-life healthcare scenarios, with hands-on activities designed to promote confidence and immediate application in the workplace. The course supports improved decision-making, compliance and service quality. Over a 4-week period (12 hours total), learners will focus on applying maths in real care settings to support safe, efficient, and effective practice. Key topics include: • Calculating accurate medication dosages and measurements. • Managing time and scheduling care tasks. • Budgeting for resources and personal care plans. • Interpreting and using health data in decision-making. • Applying numeracy skills to care planning and reporting. Benefits to the employer: • Promotes safer care: Staff learn how to calculate and check medication dosage and interpret vital patient data, reducing the risk of effort. • Improves operational efficiency: Learners can confidently plan rotas, manage time, and handle financial tasks related to care delivery. • Supports compliance and reporting: Staff develop numeracy skills needed for accurate records-keeping and CQC-relevant documentation. • Reduces training disruption: Flexible delivery options allow sessions to run on-site, in our office, or online to fit around shift patterns. • Builds staff confidence and retention: A practical, supportive environment helps staff overcome maths anxiety and engage in lifelong learning. This is a non-regulated course. Session Duration – 12 hours over 4 weeks (3 hours per session)
