This course develops core English and Digital Skills through the practical and legal framework of the Passive Fire Responsible Person role. Aimed at those holding or preparing to hold statutory duties under UK fire safety legislation, it is ideal for facilities managers, duty holders, building owners, and others designated under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order or Building Safety Act. Learners will build the ability to read, interpret, and communicate complex fire safety information, access and navigate digital legislation resources, and complete electronic compliance records confidently and accurately. Functional Skills are embedded throughout, with English strengthened through reading legislation, discussions, and written reflections, and Digital Skills developed through online research, data handling, and digital documentation. By linking language, literacy, and technology to real-world responsibilities, the course enables participants to operate effectively and compliantly as Responsible Persons within modern fire safety management. This course develops essential English and Digital Skills contextualised to the duties of a Passive Fire Responsible Person. Learners will: •Read and interpret fire safety legislation, guidance, and compliance documents accurately •Identify and summarise key legal duties under the Fire Safety Order and Building Safety Act •Communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and discussion, when reporting fire safety information •Access, evaluate, and use online resources to locate current regulations and guidance Complete and manage electronic compliance records, forms, and reports securely •Apply digital literacy to navigate legislation databases and communicate with regulatory bodies •Reflect on real-world case studies to improve understanding of compliance and enforcement expectations All Functional Skills are embedded through realistic, fire safety–related activities, enabling learners to build confidence in interpreting legislation, managing digital records, and fulfilling their Responsible Person duties effectively and compliantly.

To be eligible for this training, you must be: •19 years old or over •Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker. •Have the right to live and work in the UK. •You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years. This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches.
