Skill Overview

This short, practical course is designed to strengthen the numeracy skills of staff working across logistics, warehousing, and transport roles. Learners will build confidence in applying maths to key workplace tasks such as stock control, route planning, VAT calculations, and accurate completion of forms and invoices. This course focuses on real-life logistic tasks and helps learners apply addition, subtraction, percentages and time calculations to improve accuracy and efficiency on the job. It also supports those who may be returning to learning or preparing for progression to a Functional Skills qualification. Over a 4-week period (12 hours total), participants will learn how to apply core mathematical concepts to support accurate inventory control, route planning, and cost calculations. Key topics include: • Managing stock levels and inventory using basic calculations. • Planning delivery routes and calculating time and distances. • Working with percentages, including VAT and discounts. • Completing invoices, delivery records, and cost reports. • Using addition, subtraction, and time calculations in real-world scenarios. Benefits for Employers • Improves workforce accuracy and efficiency: Staff will be better equipped to manage stock levels, track deliveries, and complete documentation with fewer errors. • Reduces operational risk: Enhanced numeracy helps minimise costly mistakes in inventory, invoicing, and route planning. • Promotes cost awareness and decision-making: Learners understand how to calculate VAT, compare supplier pricing, and make informed purchasing decisions. • Minimises disruption through flexible delivery: We deliver training on employer’s site, in-house at our fully equipped office, or online – with sessions scheduled to fit around shift patterns and operational demands. • Boosts progression and retention: Helps develop staff from operative to supervisory level and acts as a stepping stone to further qualifications in logistics or maths. This is a non-regulated course. Session Duration – 12 hours over 4 weeks (3 hours per session)
