Upon successful completion of the course the operator will be able to demonstrate how to undertake safe methods of checking, attaching and storage of lifting accessories; operate an overhead pendant-controlled electric crane/hoist correctly and safely in line with industry best practice guidance.

Learning Objectives

Content Covered in this Course Includes: Introduction to applicable legislation; Employer and Employee obligations under the Health & Safety at Work Act; Applying relevant aspects of the LOLER Regulations; Carrying out pre-operation inspection/checks of equipment and accessories; Understanding the need to plan the work; Identifying site and workplace hazards; Applying crane and hoist safe operating procedures; Assessing loads including methods of de-rating; Correctly using chain slings, fibre slings, shackles, eyebolts etc.; Understanding the safety principles in relation to hoisting and slinging angles etc.; Operating signals (where required); Shutdown procedures; Workplace training and observation/assessment.
