This programme will equip learners with a robust set of skills, knowledge and behaviours that will allow them to progress their career as a Children, Young People and Families Practitioner. Learners can expect to receive shadowing opportunities and will take part in specific job-related tasks in the workplace such as learning the routines of young people and how to support them with their daily living needs. Learners will attend medical appointments, consultation visits, family contact visits, visits with a social worker, youth offending panels and more. Learners will also provide daily support for children around schooling, dealing with incidents such as missing from home, restraints, assaults and interventions, drug and alcohol issues, grooming plus others. The programme qualification will cover 19 units, research and reflection, as well as linking to the standards knowledge, skills and behaviours.

For apprentices aged 16-21 the training costs are fully funded by the government. For apprentices aged over 21, there is a 5% co-investment which would be paid by the employer. Alternatively, the training costs can be covered by utilising the Apprenticeship Levy Fund.

Learners should hold a minimum of Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths or the correct equivalent and should also have been subjected to an enhanced DBS check. Initial assessments and diagnostics completed in English and maths to assess levels of literacy and numeracy and determine any additional learning needs.
