Skill Overview

This is a 6-day core Programme, taking place in modules over a 2-3 month period.  This highly participative Programme is designed to enable your key managers to develop a comprehensive knowledge of a broad range of leadership & management competences, increase their ability to influence others, and improve their self-confidence and personal awareness.  

Overview

Designed to meet the needs of managers at senior, middle and junior levels, the Programme will cover a range of essential management skills as indicated.

The programme is built around 3 key areas: 

Managing Others
Managing Oneself
Personal Growth and Development

A high level of participation throughout will ensure that participants focus on applying the ideas discussed to practical solutions to real work issues.  

A mix of participants from different sections will encourage a healthy exchange of views and ideas, and a positive, solution orientated approach.  

If required participant groups can be of the same grade to encourage open and frank discussion about key issues relevant to that grade.  If preferred, groups can be of mixed grade to encourage the exchange of ideas and a broader perspective and awareness of issues relevant to different levels of management.  
Participants at the end of each part of the programme will construct an Action Plan.  This will be discussed with their managers on return to the workplace to ensure that the learning is supported and applied.

Learning Objectives

Part One: The Manager As A Leader: Inspiration, Motivation, Direction

This is a highly participative 2-day event, focusing on the role of the manager as a leader to inspire, motivate and give direction to others.  

In this module we cover:

Communication - The Management Cycle; identifying and breaking down the barriers

Action Centred Leadership - Giving Direction; setting goals & standards

Team Building - Stages in team development; team roles; manager’s qualities

Motivating Others - Maslow / Hertzberg; spotting danger signs; manager’s role

Coaching Skills - Recognising coaching opportunities; skills for developing staff

Action planning


Part Two: Core Management Skills: Achieving Optimum Personal Effectiveness

This module focuses, over the course of 2 days, on the core skills required by today’s managers to achieve optimum personal effectiveness in their role.  In this module we cover:

Planning & Organising - Making the most of your time

Delegation - Key skills for getting the best out of people

Managing Meetings - Planning, running & contributing to effective meetings

Problem Solving & Decision Making - A structured approach; creative thinking

Action planning


Part Three: Personal Development: Self Esteem & Personal Power - Influencing Others

Part Three offers participants the opportunity, over 2 days, to explore their own personal development needs, self image and personal influence, with a view to enhancing their personal effectiveness to achieve positive results through people.  In this module we cover:

Behaviour types & their affect on others

Personal power - developing productive relationships

Building self confidence

Resilience & tenacity - dealing with difficult people

Influencing & persuading others

Positive thinking & self talk

Internal motivation

Action planning
