Skill Overview

This occupation is found in manufacturing and retail sectors. Employers range in size from small to large.

Bakers may work in a craft bakery, plant bakery or retail outlet. A craft baker works in a production unit producing hand crafted bakery products. They supply their own retail outlets or sell direct to third party wholesale customers. A plant baker produces bakery products using large scale production methods, to supply food and retail outlets. They work in a large-scale production facility, with a high level of automation in a continuous process. A retail baker is involved in both production and shop floor activities. They produce, bake off and display products for direct sale to customers.

Learning Objectives

Apprentices will develop Knowledge skills and behaviors which are linked to their job role duties. 

The Apprentice will be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week included in this the Apprentice will  attended college a minimum of 1 day.

Apprentices will be coached and mentored by their employer and skills coach. The apprentice will undertake formative and summative assessment at College and the workplace to develop KSB's. Apprentice will undertake an End Point Assessment at the end of their Apprenticeship and will be graded pass, merit or distinction. 

Apprentices will be provided with career advice and guidance on next steps, whether this is progression to advanced level Apprenticeships, university or job promotion.

Funding Eligibility

Apprentices aged 16-21 are fully funded and employers have the opportunity to apply for an incentive payment of 1,000. (which is paid in two parts)
Apprentices aged 22 plus; the employer will pay a 5% contribunation of the funding band. (this can be paid in full or installments)
