Skill Overview

The 2 week programme of Functional Skills Maths Level 1 & Level 2 is to develop learners' fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills for practical application in everyday life and work situations.

Learning Objectives

The delivery of Functional Skills Maths Level 1 & 2 will have a significant impact on learners by enhancing their mathematical competence and confidence in real-world contexts. 

1. Increased Confidence and Fluency – Learners will develop a more positive attitude towards mathematics, gaining the self-assurance to use numerical skills in everyday situations and the workplace. 

2. Improved Practical Application – Learners will be able to apply their mathematical knowledge effectively in familiar contexts, such as handling money, measuring, and interpreting data, making them more independent in daily tasks. 

3. Stronger Problem-Solving Skills – By learning to apply mathematical thinking to solve simple problems, learners will improve their ability to make informed decisions and approach challenges logically. 

4. Better Preparedness for Work and Further Study – The skills developed will support learners in progressing to higher levels of mathematical study (Functional Skills Levels 1 and 2) or transitioning into employment and vocational training. 

5. Enhanced Numeracy for Everyday Life – Learners will gain competence in key areas, including number operations, measurement, shape, and data handling, enabling them to navigate real-world situations with greater ease. 

6. Development of Logical Thinking and Persistence – Engaging in mathematical tasks will foster essential behaviours such as perseverance, analytical thinking, and accuracy, which are valuable across various aspects of life and work. 

7. Greater Accessibility to Opportunities – With a solid foundation in fundamental mathematical concepts, learners will have improved access to further education, apprenticeships, and job opportunities that require basic numeracy skills.
