Skill Overview

The aim of this course is to provide the learner with a good foundation on the safeguarding issues that affect children with disabilities and why they and young people are more at risk including how to identify abuse and the reporting procedure as well as best practice.

Learning Objectives

On completion of this course learners will be able to:  Identify the most appropriate language and terminology to use when referring to a child or young person with a disability Explain the impact that a disability can have on a child, their family and their care needs Understand why children with disabilities are more vulnerable to abuse and neglect Describe the potential warning signs to look out for which may suggest abuse Recognise what constitutes best practice for responding to concerns about child abuse - understand how to talk to the child about your concerns and why it's so important to act if appropriate
