Promotional information containing errors and ambiguities leaves potential customers feeling doubtful. Our one-day course starts by considering the types of error a proof-reader is expected to identify and correct. We consider the difference between proof-reading and proof-editing, how to exercise judgement in how much to change and where proof-reading fits into a variety of publishing processes. We answer basic questions about grammar and some of the common mistakes and omissions that often slip through to printed material. We also highlight the importance of obtaining sufficient guidance from the client about the result they expect you at the end of the process. The course allows plenty of practice throughout the day, and helps you to develop a system for checking copy so that nothing is missed and your copy is crisp, correct and clear.
