The Introduction to English for Non-native Speakers (Entry 1) qualification is designed for learners who are new to English or have limited exposure to the language. The course aims to provide a foundational understanding of the English language, focusing on practical communication skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This course is ideal for learners who need to use basic English in everyday life, at work, or in social situations. Over the course of 18 weeks, learners will develop essential language skills, including the ability to greet others, introduce themselves, understand and produce simple sentences, and engage in basic conversations. The course includes a mixture of theoretical learning and practical exercises, ensuring that learners can apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. The final goal of this course is to prepare learners for further study or integration into English-speaking environments by strengthening their communication skills. This is a non-regulated course Session Duration – 18 weeks (3.5 hours per session)

By the end of this course, participants will be able to: • Identify their personal language learning goals and understand the course objectives, assessment methods, and expectations. • Demonstrate foundational English skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through simple conversations, written exercises, and basic comprehension activities. • Use everyday English for practical communication, including greetings, introductions, asking and answering common questions, and talking about daily routines. • Read, write, and use basic vocabulary for personal information, numbers, time, money, and common places, applying correct pronunciation, spelling, and simple sentence structures. • Ask for and give basic directions, prices, and quantities using appropriate phrases and vocabulary for common real-life situations.

This course is part of our Skills Development Service. To be eligible for this training, you must be: • 19 years old or over • Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker. • Have the right to live and work in the UK. • You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years. This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches.
