This full-day PEG Feeding training course is essential for healthcare staff who regularly interact with service users who use PEG and other feeding tubes. The course looks at the reason and methods of PEG feeding and train delegates on the various types of medication administration techniques including the use of machines and safe use.

Understand what a PEG is, and the indications for its use Know the anatomy and physiology of a PEG Understand the mechanics of swallowing Be aware of conditions that can affect swallowing Know how to care for and clean stoma sites Be aware of the common complications of PEGs Recognise the signs of urgent complications, and what to do when indicated Understand the roles and responsibilities of professionals regarding PEGs Be aware of the factors that can affect the prescription of PEG feeds Recognise who might require additional nutritional support Understand how to administer feed using a pump Know how to administer feed using a bolus Be aware of issues surrounding administering medication through PEGs Know when and how to flush a PEG tube Understand how to deal with a blocked tube The indications and contraindications for completing a bedside PEG tube replacement Immediate actions on unplanned/accidental/traumatic removal of PEG tube Bedside PEG replacement process Safety/Equipment/procedure
