The Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) 2-day course is designed to equip up to participants with the skills and knowledge to support young people (ages 8-18) who may be experiencing mental health challenges. This comprehensive training provides insight into the mental health issues that commonly affect youth, teaches participants how to recognise early warning signs, and offers practical first aid strategies for a range of mental health crises. By the end of the course, participants will be certified Youth Mental Health First Aiders, capable of providing immediate support and guiding young people towards professional help. Target Audience: - Teachers, school staff, and educators - Youth workers and social workers - Parents and caregivers - Health professionals working with young people - Community leaders and volunteers - Anyone who works with or supports young people

By the end of this course, participants will be able to: - Understand Youth Mental Health: Gain a thorough understanding of mental health issues that affect young people and the factors that contribute to their development. - Recognise Signs of Mental Health Challenges: Identify early signs and symptoms of common mental health issues in young people, including anxiety, depression, self-harm, and eating disorders. - Provide Youth Mental Health First Aid: Learn how to offer initial support to young people experiencing mental health crises, such as suicidal thoughts, self-harm, eating disorders or panic attacks, and how to guide them to appropriate professional help. - Understand the YMHFA Action Plan (ALGEE): Use the ALGEE framework to assess risk, provide support, and encourage professional help. - Promote Recovery and Well-being: Support young people in their recovery and promote strategies for building resilience and maintaining mental well-being. - Maintain Self-Care: Recognise the importance of self-care for Youth Mental Health First Aiders and develop strategies to maintain their own mental well-being.
