Key Learning Areas: Welding Techniques and Processes Gain practical experience in common welding processes such as MIG (Metal Inert Gas), MAG (Metal Active Gas), and MMA (Manual Metal Arc). Learn how to choose the appropriate welding technique for different materials and applications. Material Properties and Preparation Understand the properties of various metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium, and how they react to heat and welding. Learn the correct methods for preparing materials for welding, including cleaning, cutting, and positioning to ensure proper fit-up. Health and Safety Compliance Develop a thorough understanding of health and safety regulations, focusing on welding-specific risks such as exposure to fumes, high temperatures, and electric shocks. Learn how to properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safe working practices to avoid accidents. Welding Equipment Setup and Maintenance Acquire skills in setting up welding equipment, including adjusting machine settings for different welding processes and material thicknesses. Learn basic maintenance of welding tools and equipment to ensure they are safe and reliable for use. Welding Quality and Inspection Gain the ability to produce welds that meet basic quality standards, ensuring welds are strong, defect-free, and visually acceptable. Learn simple inspection techniques to assess the quality of welds and identify any defects such as cracks, porosity, or undercuts. Interpreting Engineering Drawings and Specifications Develop the ability to read and understand engineering drawings, welding symbols, and specifications to ensure welds meet design requirements. Learn how to follow detailed instructions to carry out welding tasks accurately and efficiently. Teamworking and Communication Collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to complete tasks as part of a team. Communicate any issues, defects, or safety concerns clearly and professionally to supervisors or team members.
