The aim of this course is to develop the capability to undertake risk assessments and safety audits that meet the requirements of legislation.
Learning Objectives

On completion of the programme delegates will be able to: Appreciate the legal requirements for risk assessments to be undertaken with reference to general work activity, hazardous substances, manual handling operations, Display screen equipment, noise exposure, fire; Understand the terminology used including reference to hazard, risk, danger, competent person, Approved Code of Practice; Understand the purpose of Risk Assessment in terms of the identification of hazards, risk levels, probable outcomes and the establishment of the hierarchy of control measures; Understand the difference between preventative and protective control measures; Apply techniques for undertaking, recording and reviewing risk assessments; Understand the principles of active monitoring and the role of safety audits; Appreciate the documentation that forms the basis for the audit including the Health and Safety Policy, Procedures and Work instructions, Accident Book, Absence records; Appreciate the procedures for conducting a safety audit including the use of interviewing techniques and check lists.
