Skill Overview

This is an Apprenticeship standard, which includes training at work with your employer and at college 1 day per week. You will be employed as an Apprentice and will typically work 35 plus hours per week. 

Apprentice Mechanical maintenance technicians will work on various types of plant and equipment commonly found throughout the Engineering Industry. These Technicians will undertake installation, testing, servicing, removal, replacement, maintenance and repair of a range of equipment, sometimes complex, as part of planned preventative and reactive maintenance programmes. They may also undertake decommissioning activities when plant is being removed from service. Maintenance Technicians can be expected to migrate through these sectors during the course of their careers. Dependent upon the sector that they are employed in there may be subtle differences in terms of the composition and application of the plant and equipment. However, the fundamental principles of operation will be the same regardless of the engineering sector.

Learning Objectives

Apprentice will develop Knowledge skills and behaviours which are linked to their job role duties. 

The Apprentice will be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week included in this the Apprentice will attend college a minimum of 1 day.

Apprentices will be coached and mentored by their employer and skills coach. The apprentice will undertake formative and summative assessments at College and the workplace to develop KSBs. Apprentice will undertake an End Point Assessment at the end of their Apprenticeship and will be graded pass, merit or distinction. 

Apprentices will be provided with career advice and guidance on next steps, whether this is progression to advanced level Apprenticeships, university or job promotion.

Funding Option

Funding Eligibility

Apprentices aged 16-21 are fully funded and employers have the opportunity to apply for an incentive payment of 1,000. (which is paid in two parts)
Apprentices aged 22 plus; the employer will pay a 5% contribution of the funding band. (this can be paid in full or in instalments)
