This course is designed for professionals working in health and social care settings who wish to improve their written communication skills in line with workplace requirements. Participants will gain practical experience in writing care plans, incident and shift reports, and communicating with patients’ families using clear, structured, and professional language. The course focuses on functional literacy tasks that support patient safely, effective care delivery, and legal compliance across a range of care environments. Learners will explore the ethical and regulatory expectations of documentation in health and social care, while building confidence and competence in producing accurate, non-bias and purposeful written communication. Over a 4-week period (12 hours total), learners will focus on writing clear, accurate, and professional documents used in care environments. Key topics include: • Writing care plans and daily records with clarity. • Completing incident and safeguarding reports. • Communicating sensitively with families and colleagues. • Using appropriate language and tone in formal documentation. • Ensuring accuracy and professionalism in written communication. Employer Benefits: • Enhances the quality of care: Staff develop clear, accurate writing skills that improve communication across teams and ensure effective care planning and handovers. • Promotes compliance: Learners gain confidence in writing documentation that aligns with legal and regulatory requirements, including confidentiality and safeguarding. • Reduces errors and misunderstandings: By improving clarity and consistency in reports and care records, the risk of communication breakdown is reduced. • Builds professional confidence: Staff are better prepared to communicate with external professionals and family members in a respectful, well-structured manner. • Flexible delivery: Sessions can be delivered in the workplace, online, or at our training centre, with scheduling that fits around shift patterns and operational needs. This is a non-regulated course. Session Duration – 12 hours over 4 weeks (3 hours per session)
