Skill Overview
*

The apprenticeship programme for Teaching Assistants will help those who are currently supporting teaching in education, to strengthen their base knowledge of core areas including safeguarding, health and safety when working with children and young people and the national curriculum. Learners can expect mentoring and shadowing elements to the programme, as well as independent study and specialist coaching. Applicants will come to understand how pupils learn and develop, whilst considering theories and influences in child development in relation to key stages. This will also allow apprentices to develop their own learning style. Through both off-the-job learning and working with a direct subject specialist, learners will come to develop technology skills that will support them in their role and by working with teachers, apprentices will also understand and support formative and summative assessments for learning. OneFile courses delivered through the programme are developed and set to learners around wider subjects such as their health, healthy eating, drug awareness, prevent and hygiene. These are developed on an on-going basis and take into account key themes and trends impacting society. Who is suitable? This programme is suitable for teaching assistants working in primary, special and secondary education settings across all age ranges, encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities.
