The Cyber Security pathway equips apprentices with the knowledge and skills to identify, prevent, and mitigate security threats. Apprentices gain hands-on experience in threat detection, vulnerability assessment, incident response, and risk management, using frameworks such as OSSTMM, PTES, NIST & PCI DSS.
They develop practical expertise in network security, encryption, access control, and secure software design. Apprentices can meaningfully contribute to strengthening your organisation’s security and compliance readiness.
This pathway helps businesses build resilient cyber teams, reduce exposure to risk, and create an embedded culture of security awareness.

Learning Objectives

On the Level 6 Digital & Technology Solutions Professional apprenticeship (Cyber Security pathway), the learner will develop the knowledge and skills required to protect organisational systems, networks and data from cyber threats. This includes understanding common vulnerabilities, threat landscapes and attack methods, and applying security principles to identify, assess and mitigate risks. The learner will gain experience in monitoring systems for potential security incidents, implementing appropriate security controls, and supporting the development of secure systems and infrastructure in line with organisational policies and industry standards.

The programme will also support the learner to develop a strong understanding of governance, risk management and compliance within a cyber security context. They will learn to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to promote secure working practices, respond to incidents and support investigations where required. Alongside technical capability, the learner will build skills in communication, problem-solving and continuous improvement, ensuring they can contribute effectively to maintaining and strengthening the organisation’s overall security posture.

This apprenticeship is available to employers and employees looking to upskill in their organisation. We cannot support applications from unemployed individuals.
 
Sole traders or self-employed individuals cannot enrol themselves but may enrol a new employee.
 
For apprentices aged 16-21 the training costs are fully funded by the government. For apprentices aged over 21, there is a 5% co-investment which would be paid by the employer. Alternatively, the training costs can be covered by utilising the Apprenticeship Levy Fund. Submit an enquiry to find out more
