Skill Overview

Gain essential skills in applying maths to manual handling within the Construction/Logistics Sector.

This course is aimed at developing learners’ mathematical skills by applying measurement, estimation, and basic calculations to practical manual handling scenarios that can be applied to the following plant training:
NPORS Slinger/Signaller
CPCS/NPORS Forward Tipping Dumper 
AITT FLT
CABWI Streetworks

For a nominal fee of £25 to cover registration costs, learners can undertake one of the above courses alongside the Maths focussed Manual Handling Course and receive a Licence to Practice upon successful achievement of assessment and payment of the registration costs for the plant. 

The course is delivered over 4 hours on its own or embedded within one of the plant/logistics courses detailed above over the course of up to a week dependant on the course.

By building confidence in maths within manual handling with a particular overarching focus on plant or logistics, this support the learners and employers with appropriate competencies and abilities within their chosen field of specialism, whilst gaining life long maths skills that not only support Health and Safety within the workplace, but provides underpinning transferable knowledge that can be applied outside of the work environment.

Learning Objectives

Module 1 - Weights & Measurements 
· Estimate and measure weight, distance, and load dimensions accurately
· Convert between units of measurement (e.g., kg/lb, cm/inches)

Module 2 - Forces & Load Distribution 
· Calculate force, effort, and load distribution in basic terms

Module 3 - Ratios & Scaling in Lifting Techniques 
· Apply ratios and scaling to lifting techniques

Module 4 - Risk Assessment with Numbers 
· Complete risk assessments using quantitative data

Through covering the above topis, the learner will gain in addition a greater understanding of Health and Safety through the application of safe manual handling practices.

This course is part of our Skills Development Service.

To be eligible for this training, you must be:

•	19 years old or over 
•	Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker.
•	Have the right to live and work in the UK. 
•	You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years.

This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches.
