"Adult Care Workers are frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently, and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives through person centred care. Adult Care Workers work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or clinical healthcare settings. Job titles might include: Care Assistant, Support Worker, Personal Assistant, Key Worker, Substance Misuse Worker, Learning Disability Support, Mental Health Support Worker or Re-enablement Worker. This standard enables the development of knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of a competent worker in this regulated industry."

For apprentices aged 16-21 the training costs are fully funded by the government. For apprentices aged over 21, there is a 5% co-investment which would be paid by the employer. Alternatively, the training costs can be covered by utilising the Apprenticeship Levy Fund.
