This one-day course supports employees in developing essential English skills for clear and professional workplace communication. Learners will strengthen both written and verbal communication, build confidence in customer-facing interactions, and improve their ability to interpret and respond to workplace documents. The course is highly practical, using real-world workplace scenarios to ensure learning is directly transferable to employees’ roles. This is a non-regulated, non-accredited course. Duration: 4 hours (1 day) Delivery options: On-site at employer premises, in-house at our training centre, or online. Customisation: Content and focus topics can be adapted based on employer needs and feedback. Key Topics: - Principles of effective workplace communication: tone, formality, clarity, and audience awareness. - Identifying and overcoming barriers to communication. - Writing clear and structured workplace documents (emails, memos, reports). - Grammar, punctuation, and proofreading techniques for accuracy. - Customer-facing communication: positive language, empathy, and conflict management. - Reading strategies for workplace documents (policies, emails, reports). - Applying safeguarding, GDPR, and equality principles in communication. - Producing professional written responses to workplace information. By the end of the course, participants will be able to: 1. Apply principles of clarity, tone, and professionalism in workplace communication, recognising and addressing barriers such as jargon, poor grammar, or inappropriate language. 2. Write professional workplace documents (e.g., reports, memos, emails) that are structured, accurate, and audience-appropriate, applying correct grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. 3. Communicate confidently with customers and clients, using positive phrasing and strategies to manage complaints or difficult conversations constructively. 4. Read and interpret workplace documents effectively, applying skimming, scanning, and comprehension techniques to extract key information. 5. Integrate professional writing and reading skills by responding to workplace documents with accurate, concise summaries or action points.

This course is part of our Skills Development Service. To be eligible for this training, you must be: • 19 years old or over • Employed, volunteering or an unpaid worker. • Have the right to live and work in the UK. • You must not already have achieved a level 2 qualification, in this subject, in the last 3 years. This support is available for those living in Greater Manchester or one of the neighbouring areas. These include parts of Lancashire, Derbyshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, and Cheshire – your eligibility will be checked by one of our Skills Coaches
